Mark Mulroney uses collage, drawing, painting, sound, and sculpture to expose the viewer to a fascinating, interconnected universe of religious and scatological thought. In Follow the Nosebleeds, his soon to open new exhibition, Mulroney re-imagines Mixed Greens as a more intimate, studio-like space. He divides the gallery with constructions, furniture, and partitions all made of cardboard (loosely based on the haunted houses he built with his brothers as a child). In this setting, mixed media and diverse content inspire active participation [...]
James Mollison The Disciples Between 2004 and 2007, James Mollison attended pop concerts across Europe and the USA with a mobile photography studio, inviting fans of each music star or band to pose for their portrait outside the gig. He subsequently combined portraits of 8-10 fans for each performer into a single line up, making a single panoramic image in each case. With a total over 500 individual portraits, in 58 panoramic images, The Disciples, an original, sharp and highly entertaining take [...]
A number of folks are saying that 2009 will be the year that VRM breaks into the mainstream. What say you?
Back in August 2006, infosthetics posted the Israeli versus Lebanese Coffin Counter project, which depicted the proportionality of casualties by nationality in the conflict between Israel and the Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. With the dramatic current events of the war against Hamas in Gaza, this project has just been renewed and updated [moiz.ca] with the latest (depressing) casualty figures. Each coffin icon represents a single person killed as reported by BBC News, sorted as either Israeli or Palestinian.
Track SEO rankings with Google Analytics Well, you can’t specifically track the exact position of the keyword that was clicked like you can do with AdWords. But it is possible to determine the page he was on. A ranking tool can tell you over and over again that a certain keyword is around position 15 in Google while Google Analytics claims he is on page 1 (position 1 to 10). This effect can come from ‘personalized search’ or ‘local results’ [...]
Here we go. The History of the Internet is a 7 minute animated infographics documentary explaining the inventions from timesharing to filesharing and from Arpanet to the Internet. The Internet history is told with the visual support of PICOL icons (short for Pictorial Communication Language), an ongoing research project that aims to determine a standard and reduced sign system for electronic communication. You can watch the movie below. Via Made in Mundo.
Felix Turner's excellent Flash galleries (SimpleViewer, PostcardViewer, AutoViewer, and TiltViewer) have been integrated with Photoshop for some time. Now with a little assist from PS scripter Jeff Tranberry, the processing module is compatible with CS4. You can download the CS4 versions (self-installing via Extension Manager) as well as the CS3 versions from Felix's Airtight Interactive site.
I've been at this blog for nearly 3 years now and have never asked for something like this—I hope I've earned enough trust to be able to ask something back from you. Above is a picture of Daniela and her family. Brandon, age 6, Daniela, age 9 and little Evelyn age 4. Daniela recently divorced her husband after years of intense physical abuse. In recent years her mortgage went unpaid and she's lost her house. As of this moment, Daniela's family [...]
When I checked-in at nwa.com on New Year's Eve, I saw the new feature of sending e-boarding pass to mobile phone number or email, I was curious what is this new feature is, so I selected to send e-boarding pass to mobile's email. Almost instantly, I received email with the boarding pass which contained a barcode, more specifically Aztec Code, and I was ready to go try it out. When I got to the security checkpoint, instead of the piece [...]
Gail sent me a photo of a table that she believes to be an early or custom Knoll piece. Can any antique or vintage dealers or mid-century modern enthusiasts shed any light on this piece? Thanks for the help!
The other day I saw some unfamiliar M&Ms packaging in a local drugstore. The Retro Tube! I wondered whether this was truly a reissue of an old packaging style or just a marketing ploy—a “remember a time that never was” kind of thing—and I asked an older woman in front of me whether she remembered M&Ms ever having come in that kind of package in the past. She said no, she didn’t. But, some quick internet research reveals that, in fact, [...]
the danube flower began life thirty-five years ago as a restaurant sponsored by the communist government in belgrade. over time the building disintegrated and became unused. however the firm 4of7 worked with the buildings owner to integrate it with the attached fitness club below. the wellness sky concept came out of this brief. the new building was designed to feel like entering a cloud. to achieve this they used an open concept space that uses reflective [...]

This and last week's picks: Elemental's Quinta Monroy project at Arch Daily, social housing that grows over time, "when the given money is enough for just half of the house, the key question is, which half do we do. We choose to make the half that a family individually will never be able to achieve on its own, no matter how much money, energy or time they spend." Geico's much-maligned inanimate wad of bills, known as "Kash," returns in these two new spots by The Martin Agency. In the ad above, the banknotes briefly flutter in the breeze. That's pretty much the highlight of the action here. To his credit, though, the guy who plays the stereotype hick rancher really does seem inbred. The gecko is also back in some more palatable offerings. Maybe the lizard could eat or burn or tear "Kash" to shreds in a Japanese [...]
human anatomy keds shoes (via zazzle) if clothing trends are any indication, we will see a lot of back to basic approaches in 2009. for clothing, back to basics means taking inspiration from the very body the clothing covers. thats right anatomy and anatomical inspired designs are sprouting up on shirts, dresses and even socks. we have spotted the concept in a number of places and have collected some examples to show. the first three examples [...]
Bend this bookcase to your stylish will. There is nothing more exciting that having full creative control over the room you are designing. This Bookworm bookcase, designed by Ron Arad, is a piece of art as well as a durable shelf for all your literary companions. It is made of flexible material that has been tested so that whatever position you bend it, each support can hold approximately 20 lbs of weight. This means that you can bend, twist and [...]
Our old colleague Dan Saffer asked a brief question to the IxDA mailing list, “What should interaction designers know about strategy?” It set off an excellent discussion. I responded in the thread, but I wanted to rephrase the post here for the AP Blog. For starters, there’s a tendency to equate “strategy” with “business”, and I think that can be harmful. There are many examples of design that aren’t suited to business, but none that aren’t suited to strategy. When I [...]

designer jaebeom jeong has been featured here on designboom quite a few times. his furniture and lighting projects always seem to have a distinct feel. his r60 chair is one of his latest pieces that is part of his wireframe series. as jeong describes the piece, this chair embodieds an image of infinity repetition derived from reflex action and virtual image. while the description is technical the chair itself features a single chair that has been [...]
